Why a 2CV?????

A question we are asked whenever we mention the rally to people!.
The cars that did the 2004 were a Reliant Rialto, Fiat 126 and Panda, Ford Fiesta,Nissan Micra and a Peugeot 205. All good rally cars I'm sure you'll agree and we needed a car that would carry on in this style.
As previously mentioned Jan wasn't to keen on using a Reliant but still wanted a car that was a bit different. Pandas were considered and were cheap enough but someone had already successfully used one of these. Renault 4's were cute but thin on the ground. Trabant? OK maybe my obsession with East bloc vehicles should be confined to 2 wheels! 2CV? Air cooled engine so no radiator to leak. Large diameter wheels so rides over pot-holes better. Long travel soft suspension to soak up the bumps. And different? Oh yes!
A quick inspection of eBay showed a problem though. They do tend to be expensive in good condition. And if they were cheap they needed welding, a skill I lack ( as anyone who has seen my attempts will tell you). So Jan volunteered (!!) to take an evening course in welding. An then one night I see a 2CV on eBay... buy now price £20.... and the deed was done.....
