Progress? Wot Progress??
Happy New Year to all our readers! Apart from Jan going from strength to strength on the welding front we haven't made much progress with Marvin.
A cursory inspection of the car showed it to be overall in pretty good condition. However it had been stored in a yard for 4-5 years and there was a small hole on the roof...... resulting in a very large hole in the drivers side floor! The drivers side sill will also need replacing and a small patch or three elsewhere. But the rest of the body seems sound and the chassis doesn't look to have suffered to badly. New tyres are needed alround so Jan and I decided to buy each other new tyres for Xmas!
A month or so after getting Marvin the paperwork appeared. The car was never re-registered by the bloke I bought it from and so it has only one owner on the V5... A Lt Col no less! The car had been dealer serviced from new, and just before it was sold it had almost £1000 spent on it, replacing the king pins, brake pipes and various engine parts. Fingers crossed we might find it doesn't need too much work! Well we can dream cant we?
Upon mentioning our adventure to some friends at the Parrott Rally in November we have been promised a pair of Recaro reclining seats for Marvin which should be a bit easier to sleep in that the standard Citroen ones. Thanks Alec and Marion!!!
Recently published, and purchased, and now compulsory bedtime reading is "How to restore a Citroen 2CV" by Lindsay Porter. so with this and the advice from people on the 2CV yahoo group we shouldn't have to many problems we cant overcome. One thing they cant help us with is our lack of garage to work in, so I think Time has come to see if we can get some coverage in the local press of Bradford and Barnsley and see if we can blag some space.
